Our suggested improvements
Just before we finished our ride in Perth, we spent an entire day discussing ride organisation, effectiveness, group problems, and highlights. It was an amazing day, and was powerful for us as a private finishing ceremony. We thought our notes on suggested improvements could be of benefit to a similar, future group. As, such, here they are..
- Max 13 people - a socially engineered group could have greater demands placed on it (eg size of group, length/breadth/depth of activity), but I imagine the cohesion will start to fail quickly as the group size increases regardless of group design. ie: if the group is only 10 or so people, it will probably be socially engineered (eg group of friends) and could then withstand greater group numbers.
- Introductory activities - so that major issues can be dealt with/avoided before being semi-permanently plonked into an intense group sitch. eg camping, riding, rock-climbing, library visiting, gambling, extortion. and set aside some time to discuss ride focus/meaning/purpose.
- Introductory week to decide - focus
setting guidelines, so you can decide not to come if it doesn’t suite you.
Commitment to cause/ process and structure
Organisers can hand over all responsibilities early, so there is less hierachy
Sort out expectations
